Mr. Richard Holloway - United Kingdom (UK)

Richard Holloway, who comes from the UK, has worked in the civil society sector for 40 years in Africa, Asia, Caribbean and Pacific, as a field worker, manager, aid administrator, trainer, writer and consultant. Following education in Oxford University and London School of Economics, he has worked for local CSOs, international NGOs, foundations, bilateral and multilateral agencies and is presently working for the World Bank on a social accountability project in Nepal. It has been an abiding interest of his to help CSOs get free from their dependence on international donors, and after training CSOs in this subject for many years, he produced,  in 2001,  the book "Towards Financial Self-Reliance" together with a training course based on it, which he has taught all over the world apart from Latin America. Other topics which interest him greatly are CSO-Government relations, integrity and corruption, and civic education.

Richard is married to Clare Blenkinsop and has 3 progeny. Wife and children all work in the development field.

 

Mr. Bernard Ross - United Kingdom (UK)

Bernard Ross is Director of the Management Centre (=mc), a global consultancy working solely for value driven organisations.=mc has offices in UK, Singapore, Mexico, Brazil, Dubai and Australia with an associate company in the USA.


His areas of expertise are strategic thinking, change leadership, innovation and organisational transformation. He works with senior teams and boards developing strategic capacity. He also acts as a personal coach to a number of CEOs of large NGOs and INGOs. He has worked for over 20 years with not-for-profit organisations helping them transform their performance. His customers include most of the major UK charities and many leading INGOs – ranging from Oxfam to UNICEF and from WHO to Greenpeace International.

His work has taken him to almost 40 countries. Among his recent projects are:
•    guiding the planning, governance and change processes for Amnesty International’s worldwide strategy
•    facilitating a major review of the US Public Broadcasting Service to develop new business models to reflect changing demographics.
•    developing strategic planning materials and private sector income strategies for UNAIDS in Africa and South America
•    helping the international Red Cross and Red Crescent to create their international fundraising startegy
•    working with UNICEF International and Greenpeace on their global innovation strategies
•    helping Sightsavers International develop a global strategy using the balanced scorecard methodology

Bernard co-authored Breakthrough Thinking for Non-Profit Organisations with Clare Segal. This book was voted Best Non Profit Book in the USA 2004- the first time Europeans have won this award. His new book The Influential Fundraiser was published by Wiley in December 2008. It was selected as one of the top 5 management books for 2009 by the New York Times.

He is a regular keynote speaker on international platforms such as the Association of Fundraising Professionals (USA), the Institute of Fundraising (UK) and Resource Alliance.

 

Ms. Elizabeth Ngonzi - United States of America (USA)

Elizabeth (Liz) Ngonzi is founder and CEO of Amazing Taste, LLC -- a US-based, values-led boutique consulting firm that connects nonprofit organizations with philanthropists and corporations -- to jointly achieve their strategic objectives through online and mobile marketing campaigns, fundraising events and educational activities.  Liz founded the firm, following a 10-year career in Corporate America, her global upbringing (born in Uganda and “raised at the United Nations”) and her personal commitment to making a social impact.  Amazing Taste has worked with and advised domestic and international educational institutions, human and gender rights causes, healthcare foundations, political campaigns, and youth development organizations.

Liz is a recognized authority on mobile and online non-profit organization supporter engagement, the African Diaspora market, hospitality / service management, women in business, and social entrepreneurship.  She has spoken at academic and industry conferences, including serving as a featured international speaker at the May 2011 Southern Africa Institute of Fundraising's 10th Biennial Convention in South Africa – whose delegates voted her as the top speaker.  In March 2011, she served as a panelist for New York University's Philanthropy 3.0 Speaker Series: Mobile in Advocacy The Next Frontier.  This coming September, Liz will speak at the Congressional Black Caucus’ 41st Annual Legislative Conference, in Washington, DC.
Committed to education, Liz has taught and developed numerous marketing, management and fundraising courses, over the last eight years.

She is currently on the adjunct faculty at New York University Heyman Center for Philanthropy & Fundraising (NYU Heyman Center), where she is one of four recognized authorities on social media, and for which she has developed courses on online and mobile fundraising.  She also frequently guest lectures at her alma mater, Cornell University School of Hotel Administration (Cornell SHA), including serving as one of 15 featured speakers in the Dean’s Distinguished Lecture Series in October 2005.

Liz recently became a member of the invitation-only, President's Council of Cornell Women (serving as a Vice Chair of the Communications Committee); is an Advisory Board Member to the Cornell University Pillsbury Institute for Hospitality Entrepreneurship; and sits on the United Nations International School's Council for Alumni Affairs. Media outlets in which she has appeared include: The New York Times, The CBS Early Show, Crain’s New New York Business, New Jersey Jewish News, Successful Meetings Magazine, Catering Magazine, Vibe Magazine, The Columbus Dispatch, and The Non Profit Times.

 

Mr. Michael Muchilwa - Kenya

Mike Muchilwa is the current chair of the Kenya Association of Fundraising Professionals. He is a leading Resource Mobilization Facilitator who has trained for various organizations on resource mobilization including Community Habitat Finance, Resource Alliance (Since 2000), Kenya Association of Fundraising Professionals and the Kenya Institute of Management. He has also trained for many organizations including Action Aid, Family Health Options, Neighbors in Action, COLIDEF, AIESEC amongst others.

Mike has over 17 years of training experience in the resource mobilization training. He has also run organizations and been involved in competitive bids and hence is up to speed with different kind of resource mobilization. Being the Chair of the Kenya Association of Fundraising Professional, he is updated with cutting edge techniques. Mike is also a Development Consultant.

 

Mr. John R. Batten, PhD, MBE, Kenya


John was born in the UK and has been resident in Kenya since 1986.  He is an educator by profession with a distinguished career managing international NGOs in S.E. Asia, East Africa, USA and UK.  He was International Training Director at the International Institute of Rural Reconstruction (IIRR) in the Philippines (1978/1985), Regional Training Adviser for CARE International (1986/1989), Country Director and CEO for ActionAid in Kenya and UK (1989/1998) and Director General of the African Medical and Research Foundation (AMREF) in Kenya (1998/2001).  

John is currently Executive Director of the Poverty Eradication Network (PEN), www.penkenya.org, an international capacity building NGO he co-founded in Kenya (2001).  He is currently a member of the International Board of Christian Blind Mission (CBM) and Chairman, CBM Kenya.  John also served as Board Member and Chairman of the Resource Alliance (1995 to 2004) and played a leading role in establishing the NGO Council in Kenya (1993), serving on the formative NGO Coordination Board (1993/1995).  

John is an established international consultant in the fields of non-profit governance, organisational assessment and development, leadership development, change management, strategic planning, resource mobilization, and education and development programming. His primary sector orientations are: Cultural Arts, Education, Disability and Development, Health and HIV/AIDS.  

John was a regular speaker at the IFC in the Netherlands from 1995 to 2004 and has been a guest speaker in more than 30 regional fundraising workshops in: East Africa, Eastern Europe, South Africa, South America, South Asia, South East Asia, USA, West Africa and Western Europe.

 

Annie Kigira-Kinuthia

Annie Kigira-Kinuthia is a seasoned public relations professional with over 16 years of experience. She holds a Master of Science (MSc.) Degree in Public Relations from Stirling University, UK and a Bachelor of Arts Honours (BA) Degree in Communication from Daystar University.

Annie is currently Standard Chartered Bank’s Regional Head of Brand and Sponsorship, Africa and Head of Corporate Affairs, East Africa. Her role among other things involves ensuring consistency use of the brand across the region as well monitoring and approving sponsorships to ensure they a consistent and appropriate for the brand.

She has previously worked with Equity Bank, World Vision, Unga Group and Communications Concepts Limited in senior positions. She is currently lecturing part-time at Daystar University in the Postgraduate Program.
